The Case for Teams in the Post-Truth Era
Back in 2020, during the pandemic, I began jotting down notes on teamwork. Soon, an inspiration emerged:
👉 Healthy teams are incredibly good places to be in uncertain times.
Teams as small organizational power-units balance the coldness of the outside world with inner warmth. Teams keep us sane in insane times and this is the unspoken case for teamwork.
Today, we find ourselves in a post-truth era. Organizations and societies are flooded with #unreality: chaos, crises, facades, lies, stress, and uncertainty. Some world leaders no longer act in people’s best interest. They openly lie, while parts of the media whitewash their actions. Systemically, the world is in a fragile state. This era will get harder to navigate, for example regarding business planning and investing.
Many hope that #AI will provide the solution. I’m not so sure. I’ve already outlined a few possible futures here and here, but my conviction is this: technology alone will not save us.
What does give me hope are healthy teams. Because they carry a hidden superpower: #reality. Within such teams, members:
🔹 Face facts together
🔹 Make sense of complexity (=uphold reality)
🔹 Plan accordingly
🔹 Act constructively (=uphold morality)
🔹 Show up consistently
🔹 Support each other
That is why healthy teams matter more than ever. They don’t just deliver products — they create islands of clarity, trust, and resilience in a turbulent world. And whose job is it to facilitate this? The Scrum Master’s!
This is not wishful thinking. It is the truth about teamwork as the noblest social system we know.
